“Kojo no Tsuki” (Moon over the ruined castle) is a Lied composed by Taki Rentaro in 1901. It penetrated deeply into my heart and soul since the very first time I had the opportunity to hear it. The “painful” E sharp that comes suddenly on the second measure of the score, obsessed me for weeks, perhaps months, till not more I could hold it inside me and I decided to write down my own solo violin version, my rendition of it filtered throughout the sensitivity of a western artist. Rentaro was inspired by the ancient Oka castle in Japan, for me the image was the ancient castle of Rocca Calascio in Abruzzo (Italy), a castle build at the top of a wild mountain, a ghostly silhouette of a glorious past; a powerful metaphor, if you will, of the ancient dualism between nature and Man and of Man greed for power. These two castles, these two stories, seem to overlap each other originating a composition that humbly I offer to the soul of maestro Rentaro Taki.LC
私が初めて日本の歌曲である荒城の月『』を聴いたとき、イタリアのアブルッツォ州にあるロッカカラッショ城と重なり合いました。人間は自然を征服しようとしても結局は自然を打ち負かすことはできません。嘆き、宇宙における人間の無力さ、自然を打ち負かそうとする人間の強欲、最後は自然と共存するには謙虚でなければならない、という気持ちを5つのバリエーションで表現しました。
